Rare Moments

It has been a while since we had a comforting home-cooked dinner in our little bubble world, on a weekday after work. It has been a while since I last cooked a "proper" meal other than instant noodles.

Decided to slow cook some EJ Beef Stew last night, for tonight's dinner. And I was pleasantly surprised that all my chopping of onions, carrots and potatoes took only about 20 minutes, a vast improvement from the ONE HOUR I used to take when I first started cooking.

Thanks to Prima instant mix of sambal sauce, The Boy helped to whip up some shiokalicious prawns with snow peas. Yes, he even wore my apron to prove that he was da chef this evening.

As we sat down to dinner, we thanked God for giving us these precious moments. It was bliss to be savouring home-cooked dinner after a hard day's work. And on top of that, today's a little more special - the Jemej celebrates our paktor-versary!

On This Day

On this day 3 years ago, The Boy (then boyfriend) arranged an unforgettable birthday party for me, with some of our dearest friends and loved ones. He spent all his time prior, making me this very special birthday video, which reduced me to tears by the end of it.

(By the way, you can see that I was quite chubby at that time. Ha.)

Little would I have expected that on this day 1 year later, we would be exchanging vows at Flutes At The Fort.

Now, on this day, today, we revisited Flutes for lunch. Thanks to Chef Francois, thanks to Eileen, we had an extremely lovely lunch. This was a treat from them, in return for letting them use some of our ROM photos on their website.

Took a shot with Francois as well, from whom I had learnt a number of French classic dishes. The 5-course lunch he prepared thereafter was simply amazing, from the appetizers of fresh scallop, to the Boston lobster, pan-fried foie gras, to our mains of cod and rack of lamb.

The ultimate treat was the desserts. You know how you always look at the dessert menu and can't decide which to have, and would love to have them all - we had that on our platter. Warm chocolate fondant (I know this one!), carrot and apple cake, tiramisu and lemon tart - simply decadent!

Great food, great wines, great conversations, great time reminiscing. Even though I wasn't actually feeling in the best of health (think I caught a chill from Bintan and was feeling feverish), we ended off the afternoon very gleeful.

And here are the rest of the pictures.

Oh, and for the records, he said since I didn't feel well today, he would give me another day to be my "birthday" - where I get 110% of his attention. Now, shouldn't that be every other day?!

Song of Love

Finally getting down to posting pictures from the day of our anniversary last week.

We started out early morning with some kaya toasts from Vivocity, before attending mass at the Church of St Teresa, where we celebrated our wedding a year back.

It was more food later on, with lunch back at Vivocity - at one of our favourite, Dian Xiao Er.

And EVEN MORE food in the evening....the highlight of the day of course, at Song of India.

Have heard so much about this restaurant, so we were very eager to check out its famed Indian cuisine. Service was attentive (especially so because I called to tell them we were celebrating our anniversary that evening), and the food......

The food was simply DIVINE. Really, I don't mind Indian food. But this is one place that I would say, serves the BEST Indian food EVER. Period.

The spices and herbs used in the gravies matched the fragrance of the saffron rice to perfection. Even the sesame naan had a hint of buttery scent that really enhanced the mix of flavours of the chicken tikka and lamb masala. I never had more rice and naan in my life. And I could have so much because the food wasn't as heavy and greasy as the usual Indian food that makes you feel "jerlat" at the end.

But still, we were totally stuffed by the end of the meal. Totally satisfied in fact! When I "winked" at the wait staff that we were ready for desserts, he brought out "the surprise" of the evening. Yes, I've always wanted a cake from Cherylshuen, thanks to the inspiration from Beanbean's wedding cake.

I had called Pei Shuen to order the cake a few days earlier, without The Boy knowing. And @ndrea was really sweet enough to help pick up the cake and bring over to the restaurant, since if I do that, there would be surprise no more. (I had bought the Precious Moments figurine earlier, which @ndrea brought over for Pei Shuen to put it on.)

We totally loved the cake. The restaurant manager even commented that this was the most beautiful cake he's ever seen in the restaurant.

And the evening ended on a sweet, endearing note. The Boy is a year older. The Jemej is a year old. And the Jemej Journey continues....

I Love Him to Shreds

The Boy got me a pair of this sweetie for our first year's anniversary.

In return, I got him this mean little machine that he's been wanting to have for the longest time. Although I can't quite figure out why you would need a shredder at home, his glee and eagerness to "shred some stuff" was just too endearing.

"It helps me to get organised around the house for once, rather than leave papers all over the place," he explained. Right, not sure why a pair of scissors can't do the trick. The funny things men do.

We are One!

As I'm typing this entry, cosy-ing up on the sofa, in the cool of the rainy night, can't help but have a big grin on my face. We had a really lovely day today. 4th of November. We celebrated The Boy's birthday. We celebrated the first year of our marriage.

We didn't plan anything spectacular. We simply enjoyed each other's company, celebrating our being together. (Pictures and updates will come later.)

Meanwhile, we just want to give thanks to the Lord, who has been there with us all these while, right from the beginning. We give Him thanks for everything that He has brought into our lives, for each other. We give thanks for all the well wishes from our loved ones and great friends.

Ok, tired already. Time to drift into la-la land!

Carousel of Love

This will be a weekend of much happening - The Boy's turning a year older, and the Jemej is crossing the 1-year mark! As I said to people jokingly, "Hey, I survived one year!" Their reply was, "Uh, it's more like Jem survived one year lor." Haha ok. =p

As I have been pretty ill for the last 2 days, down with a horrible flu and bad throat, I was trying very hard to get well for the next few days - I want to feel my best for the hubs' birthday.

First round of celebrations: With my family this evening at Carousel. Minus the Sponge Sista who's suntanning in Phuket. Plus my puffy eyes, runny nose and nasal voice.

The spread of buffet was amazing, with so much to offer, with so much variety on display. Even the Japanese food section was pretty impressive with its choices. Noticed that they have quite a few live stations as well, and coupled with the extra warm and smiley service from the wait staff right through to the culinary team manning the live stations, da Lims + da Heng had a very good time at dinner. Despite the fact that I couldn't taste much of the food properly, except for the bottle of wine that was really good. Still, I thought the food was really not bad already.

And it was really thanks to my ex-colleague, that we managed to squeeze in the table at the last minute. The birthday song that the entire team of service staff sang so loudly together, to the tune of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" was at first very embarrassing for The Boy, haha! But it sure became very heartwarming and made everyone feel very special after that. They sang with so much gusto that you could almost feel their team spirit!

Only drawback - their macaroons weren't on the buffet line. They are only sold at the patisserie. And their dessert spread wasn't as impressive. But other than that, the efficient and warm service was really quite commendable!

Happy Dating!

    My Baby Munch,

I'm so glad that I had the nerve,
    To romance a girl I didn't deserve.
And yet, 4 years on, it's hard to believe,
It's with me that she's chosen to live.

    Baby Jem
    - My Love for you cannot be measured,
Your love for me will always be treasured.

Yes, the Jemej has been dating for 4 years. :)

Yet Another Chapter

He sent this early this week.

The Jemej celebrated their 6th month since the wedding last November. So fast, all that flurry of activities leading up and during the wedding didn't seem so long ago. And it didn't seem so long ago that we were there to meet the venue co-ordinator to discuss our plans for our ROM. We had fallen in love with the place since the first time he brought me there.

Soon after, it was a day we look back with fond memories.

And as we walked along the paveway leading up to the restaurant this evening, the first time we've been back since 180206, our hands held on tightly together as we quietly relished the memories of our walk-in. We'll definitely be back regularly. Cos quite importantly as well, the food is EXCELLENT. Too bad my camera batt died on me, so didn't manage to get some food shots. Yes, I'm a klutz. How could I have thought I recharged the camera, when I very likely didn't?!

Despite it all, that I'm a klutz, that I'm a queen of nagging.... I thank The Lord for having blessed me with such a wonderful, loving husband.
