Encounters of the hairy kind

The Zoo

you might say these past two weekends were wild in every sense of the word.

We continued our expedition of worthy singapore tourist attractions today with a trip to none other than the Singapore Zoological Gardens. I can't really think of a good reason why we went, except that sometimes you dont need reasons to do things, you just up and do it. The result was great because the zoo was enjoyable.

if you close your eyes and imagine hard enough, you'd be able to convince yourself that you've been transported out of sunny Singapore. The reservior provided magnificent and peaceful views and the unfamiliar scent of animals all around you is definitely worth experiencing for yourself. After all we do live in a concrete urban jungle, what better excuse to visit another jungle.

There's really one main trail you take, and they've segmented the journey into different "themes" such as "Cat Country", "Reptiles" etc.

Lions are lazy. i swear they take turns to yawn and watching them, you would think it's a perfectly rehearsed play. King of the jungle, but i saw a documentary on NGC which showed that lions dont actually do a lot of hunting, in fact they sometimes steal the hunted prey away from the lionesses or other predators simply because they are so intimidating. Hmm.. dont we know some people like that?

The white Tigers were so magnificent. All white tigers in the world are decended from the same ancestor, Mohan, who was capturerd long ago and lived in a palace in India as a mascot. They didnt say how Mohan came about though.

Its also funny how while walking along the trail, you tend to keep bumping into the same familiar faces you saw at the entrance, even though the zoo is so big. Most visitors came with their families and their children and it became pretty obvious rather early that the animals were the more well-behaved ones.

Ah Meng, i think, retired.

well, thats the trip in a nutshell. We had a great time. Oh...how could i forget, it is possible for lions and tigers to mate, but their offspring cannot have their own offspring. They're either called Tigons or Ligers, isnt that cool?

The White Tiger is indeed an extremely rare species, one that is beautiful I might add. I myself have actually the honour of encountering such a species, not in its lliteral form, but someone close enough.

He is, like the White Tiger, as graceful and beautiful in nature, and can fight fiercely back if provoked. Majestic in terms of a magnanimous and self-giving nature, he gives it all to ensure that his love has been properly taken care of. During the period when she fell ill, he was there all the time. He nursed her so attentively, fussed over her, made sure that she was fully taken care of. If there is ever an act enough to show what genuine love and care is, it would have been the time when he stayed up all night and gingerly kissed away her fever. Yes, not that the kiss and touch alone did it, but those were the main reasons why the temperature went down. And not forgetting about the time when he did what he has never done, or thought he would ever do. He put on his gloves and scrubbed the bathroom floor in his "sanitisation efforts". (Let's hope he keeps this up.) He did it, he did it all for me.

He is the Hero. He could have his shortcomings, such as a White Tiger would, but that does not mar what I make of him. To me, he is The One. I never knew what "the other half" meant, but now I know it in its truest form.
