Sayang Dayang
No..sorry...this ain't a teaser picture for the next upcoming reality show loosely based on "Paradise Island". Thats me girlfriend EJ and her hibiscus flowers.
Welcome to Pulau Dayang! The island that has greeted and welcomed so many of my family and friends over the generations. In fact, Dad and uncle Dom have been coming to this island on their fishing escapades that they know most of the natives on the islands. It's almost like we have our very own little island! Eat your heart out Trump!
I must say that the pictures really turned out nice. Credit to Miss Munchkin for her excellent eye. You would be forgiven for thinking some of these shots were of islands in the Carribean, truly travel magazine worthy material.
Lets start at the beginning. We left home on friday morning for an early breakfast before heading to Keppel to board the boat. Weather wasn't looking like what we were hoping for. Fortunately, we made a decision not only to cross our fingers, but our toes and our eyes as well. You can understand why we were getting stares at the hawker centre because we were quite a weird looking family
Seven hours, 4 vommit occasions, 1 escape runaway spectacles later, we reached the island of Dayang. Yayy!! Great weather on the cards as we felt the heat of the sun upon our skin. Everyone wanted to get tanned and sun-kissed skin, but considering that the sun had already frenched kissed my skin, it looked like i was about to get blacker and darker than ever.
We did some fishing. EJ and i both caught two each, i think, but they were HUGE! THIS BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
See...i'm a fisherman already. Snorkelling was fun too. The ladies put on their lifejackets as we battled sea-mites ( equivalent of bed-bugs ), oncoming jellyfish, the cold water and the sun's rays. It was a fun experience. EJ had never been snorkelling before. We saw fish ( duh...they do tend to show up in the ocean) and even Nemo. I thought that at the end of the movie...they found him. Looks like a sequel on the way
Blue skies, clear waters. It really was like paradise! We had several meals on board the boat, which had a small kitchen and several bunks to sleep in. Quite a comfortable craft actually. All meals were cooked by J-I-M-M-Y! have no idea who he is except that he's a friend of Dads and a really nice person. He whipped out meal after meal in record time, under the rocky conditions, which was really impressive. I guess the food wasnt really spectacular but because the family was eating together in a holiday atmosphere out at sea, somehow, it tasted great!
We stayed in the long-house. Community living at its best! The toilet is always going to be one of the great memories of the trip! Manual flush, and pure clean water. Of course you have to suspend your curiosity on where the water actually comes from. Who cares!
Did i mention hammocks? though i didnt get to use it! hmmm.. wonder why?
<Here's a picture of the family. All had a great time. Definitely do this again some time soon!
