Intermission: A Poignant Moment

It's still so surreal to me. I have always thought I would be very cool when IT happens. A simple nod of the head, "yes", and a smile, and you stretch the finger out.

Nope, it didn't quite happen that way. We were both laughing, I was hopping around. I was at a loss for words. I couldn't find my voice. Still kneeling, he said, "Hurry up leh, we bought a flat already you know?"

The Boy had it all planned. Even though it's his birthday today, he had the stage laid out beautifully. I entered into our Garden of Eden, our own Halia. The scattered rose petals on the floor, the soft glow of tea lights illuminating the room, the swaying rhythm of music in the background. Dinner was tasty naan, take-away from Villa Bali. He brought out the sketch book. A beautiful collection of us in caricature form, from the very first day we met, through a series of memorable events. I was thinking, hey, it's his birthday and I'm getting present and royalty treatment, not bad!

He fumbled with something in his pocket. He knelt. He took out the black satin ring box. The rest.... is pure magic, pure sweetness..... He continued thereafter, to turn to the last page of the sketch book. It was the only different one, as this one didn't happen till just a minute ago. It was a picture of him kneeling with the ring and me with my outstretched hand. We had the biggest grins imaginable on our faces.

I have always dreamt of the perfect proposal, on top of the Eiffel Tower, on the Sydney Harbour Bridge etc etc etc.... but never would I have known that when it actually happened, it's far more poignant than I have ever imagined - right here, in our first home.
