A Finnish Beginning

The day that we will be meeting EJsista's bf has arrived. I was excited and nervous about it. It was decided that curry, the legendary Samy's Curry in fact, would be the first meal for the man from the nordic part of the world, a Finnish in sunny Singapore.

He was a sweet boy. She has spoken much of him, over the weekly lunches we have been having. It was fascinating talking to Heikki and finding out about the culture from that part of the world where jumping naked into a lake to swim in sub-zero temperatures was a norm. Did you know that "sauna" is the only Finnish word in the English dictionary? Almost every Finnish home has a sauna. They go into the sauna to "sweat it out" before a bath. Some families spend some time together in the sauna everyday, naked, together. Uhm, I can't quite imagine that...

The food was yummilicious. Tandoori chicken, chicken masala, lamb rendang, fish head curry, crispy papadoms.... all washed down with refreshing lime juice. It was a cool evening, though it was hot by Heikki's terms.

Nice place too, we had a wonderful time, albeit all the sniffing from the curry's spiciness.

i had finnish clients and when my colleague went to finland for the case, they insisted he go for a sauna with them. just don't think they made him go butt naked :P

and it's true, they were telling us about how they literally plunge themselves into the icy-cold water - where the hole is hacked through the ice! i think i'd be too frozen to be refreshed! needless to say, my colleague declined that little activity... :P

Haha! Jem's brother had a client who had a Finnish gf. When he visited her, her family suggested the sauna thing, with all together. He couldn't get used to it. Didn't ask if they are still together. hee.
