Domestic Goddess in the Making

House is almost ready, so thought we could swing by Harvey Norman this evening to do some market research on the electrical appliances. Decided to start with the rice cooker first. After looking through the selection, realised that there have been some technological advances in rice cookers.

They don't look like the good old ones with only 1 button anymore. They are digital, with multi-functions. And they look more like CD players to me. How come they are not round anymore??!!! Being someone who's afraid of any electrical gadget with too many buttons, I panicked. The Boy panicked too. Cos he realised he just married someone who could potentially not know how to cook rice.

How come they don't look like these anymore? These are much simpler - just put in the rice and press ONE button, and voila! Your rice is cooked. Why would I need a timer to set when I want to cook my rice, so that I can go out for a walk? And they look so much nicer, so much more like... a rice cooker.

Got distracted with these from google though. Cute. Wonder if these make cooking rice more enjoyable.

So, ladies, please enlighten me on the choice of rice cooker. What do you use at home? I can't decide. After the salesman finished his explanation of how that pseudo CD player works, I told the hubby, "Come, let's get out of here." We didn't make it to the kettle section. Till the next trip....

The consolation, till we paid up - a little Godiva indulgence. 4 pieces at an incredible 18 bucks, OUCH! Haha, what a night.

Hee I use the rice cooking thing that can be put inside microwave.
And I touch the "cook rice" button my the microwave.

But that only for 2 pax portion. So, if you intend to host dinner party...u got to use the hi tech ones :)

my rice cooker is the "old- fashioned" type, like the one on the 2nd row on the left. but at 1.8L, it's way too big for the 2 of us - we barely cover the bottom with rice when we use it!

we bought it cos it was cheap - we were all set to buy a small one when i spotted this rice cooker at only $19.90... which made it cheaper than the small one we were going to get! couldn't pass up such a good deal :)

jesmineang & beanbean > thanks babes, i took your advice, and finally decided on the old version, which i think is what we all have. At least it's straight forward to use, to cook rice is the mere function i need!

purpleshadow > huh? then your whole house will look pink and "masak masak"! haha, i would love to see that! ;)
