Smitten

With this.

I'm so drawn to this beautiful piece by one of Singapore's emerging local "pop" artists Justin Lee. Named Xiao Jie, from his "Da Jie" series, this is a piece done using acrylic on canvas.

One of the artists commissioned to showcase his works in the rooms of the New Majestic Hotel, Justin's use of the "Double Happiness" and oriental motifs is so appealing!! Check out Happy Piggy. So cute right?

I imagined Xiao Jie on the wall next to our shoe loft, immediately when you enter from the main door. Haiz, buying/collecting art is certainly an extravagance isn't it?

heheh...i don't think so leh...i think is nice investment.I love to collect such stuff but i buy cheap posters..but how much is it?

uh, $2,800.... that can buy a few bags and pairs of shoes... =p

but you are right about the investment bit. As he becomes more prominent in the arts scene, his works would be worth a lot more.

for me, i buy pieces that i love. inevitably, it translates into very expensive purchases. no way we can afford the classics. so we're always looking at edgy contemporary pieces. i'm a collector. i don't buy with the intention to sell. unless the 'potential' buyer has something that i want... then i'd do a barter trade. it's become a sort of a barter game between the friends and i now.

imp > what sort of pieces do you collect? true i would love to buy what i love, but i love many things, so it's bad! =p

I guess if, from the onset, your objective is not for investment, you would not want to sell it at all. you would love it too much to part with it. :D

peifen > you ah, tempting me... =p

wah...i might take up a huge chunk of space here! let's see if i can make short here.

i'm not into installations and prints. i divide my collection and likes into asia, europe and us. then i break it down into pottery and ceramics (say, iskandar jalil, pearl yang, alboin birks' Minton works.);

acrylics and abstract (karl andrews, dan christensen, francesco clemente, georgette chen).

okies...better stop here. heh.
