Guinea Pigs Batch #1
Yes, am starting to put my money invested into the basic cooking classes to good use - trying out the recipes at home. Given that there was no lesson yesterday, decided to have my family over and be the first batch of guinea pigs. Mum must have been very happy because this was one of the few occasions that I've cooked dinner for her. Haha.
As I've been rather tired from work (not from the load but the games people play), decided to go easy and try out a pretty simply recipe - the Braised Chicken in Red Wine with Mushrooms. Turned out that there was quite a lot of mise-en-place to prepare beforehand, lots of chopping chopping chopping! And I was a bit 心痛 with the whole bottle of red wine that went into the huge pot - it had better taste good!!
Thank goodness I didn't disappoint, the chicken was very fragrant and tender, with added punch from the bacon bits, onions and button mushrooms. And so, my #1 batch of guinea pigs went off with happy tummies... Not before my sista gave me a whole bag of kawaii Hello Kitty snacks from her recent trip to Tokyo. I'd have to remind her again - no more Hello Kitty snacks! Maybe other Hello Kitty merchandise la!
Anyhow, I'd just have to slowly build up my confidence in preparing dinner for more than my usual number of 6, as I can't handle the stress of "mass" food preparation. Slowly I'll get there. But first, I need to buy more pots, pots that are bigger in capacity compared to the ones I have currently. Oops, you didn't hear that. Oops, my husband is not reading this.

tiffany > me too! soft, tender and juicy!
lilsnooze > ok lah, we did have a few rounds of our friends over as well. Invite us over la, then you get to practise. ;)
silver-crv > HAHAHAHA, you funny la! Ok if you say so!! :D
remember i've invited myself over once you've completed all 8 lessons ya? hee... ;p
is that your grandma eating pasta?
ha, didnt know you like hello kitty stuff! :p
yah, red wine for cooking indeed causes heart pain! we've been using hard liquor. dfs one, so cheaper! :p
hahaha... i hear you on the bigger pots! DD will so kill me unfortunately, not only cos of the buying, but because he finds big pots are a PAIN to wash!
your food looks good! must practice the dishes so you won't forget! somehow it's quite different being alone at home whipping it up...
looks lovely! :)
I've found that oven-cooking lends itself really well to mass-cooking. And slow cookers too. When I do dinners for the tennis guys, I will slow cook something in the morning (stew or a meaty soup), and when back from work I will put something else in the oven in large quantities and stir-fry something simple :)
But then again it is very likely that my techniques are not as refined as yours! hee
you make me feel like taking up cooking classes too!
p/s i'm tired from the games people play at work too :|
sighh..guess the work environment is pretty much the same every where eh?
sooo...when can we go over for a meal again? heehee!
vanessa > haha, yes, you can come help me make pasta! heh. ;)
dr > you got me thinking babe. I was suddenly wondering if that was the first time she was eating pasta! She might be wondering why the noodles tasted like that, though she seemed to be enjoying it very much, haha!
yuling > uh, closet hello kitty fan. haha. Yeah, DFS would be great, which we tend to buy nice wines (for drinking) from there. Really, pouring a whole bottle into the pot is quite a waste! =p
beanbean > Yeah, Jem probably hasn't realised about the washing, till he comes to it. You're right, must practise or I'll forget the steps. definitely doing it alone at home is tougher - have to juggle between the food prep and cleaning up as you go along. STRESS!
heh, shall we go pot-shopping?! ;)
corsage > that's a great idea, for putting both my best friends in the kitchen (the oven and the slow-cooker) to effective use! Will see how I can plan a dinner like this next time, thanks! :)
inthewilderness > oh you should if you like, it's fun - good way to relax for me!
candice > yeah, no work environment is perfect. there'll be b&bs. oops.
Haha, ok ok, building up confidence, getting there, getting there!! ;)
