Day 1 @ Orchard
The day went by quickly. I was, and still am, quite blur about what's going on. And after the hand-over was done, and I got an update from the team about what's going on and what's in store, I was starting to feel rather overwhelmed already.
Great, exciting plans ahead. From the renovation of the grand lobby, to the repositioning of the mandarin gallery (YES! I'm probably trying my hand at RETAIL for the first time!!!!) and the rebranding of its F&B mix, it sure sounds like lots of work to be done. But it's not the hard work that I fear, but rather I hope that I would add good value to this milestone in the hotel's 30-year history in time to come.
The Boy, being the sweet boy that he is, felt bad for not being in town on my first day. He had flowers ordered and sent to my office.
- Him:: How's baby girl's first day?
Me:: So far so good! Still blur but ok. Thanks for the flowers, I love you!
Him:: You goddit??
Me:: Uh huh! :) By the way, I don't think you realised that you ordered fabric flowers right?
Him:: Huh?! Really? I so blur baby. But good also since you always throw my flowers away.
(At this point I would like to clarify that I DO NOT always throw them away unless they start getting mouldy.)
Me:: Haha, no lor! Oh and the arrangement was as big as those that your mum buys and puts in the living room.
Him:: I'm a dumb dumb. But but but... it's expensive lor.
Haha, that silly boy! So I was right in suspecting that he didn't see the flowers properly when he was ordering them online.
Of course no matter what, the effort that he has already taken in sending me those flowers is more than enough. Can't wait till he comes back tomorrow!!!
Meanwhile, here's a look at the lovely flowers and my new office. It's a fish tank, amidst a pretty open concept. Miss my old office, whereby each department is confined to their individual rooms, and I could scream and curse as much as I could! Ha.
By the way, I ended the work day with a quick zip next day - Takashimaya. BUT only because I had to get a mug for the office ok!

your boy's really very sweet!sounds like a great start! and repositioning mandarin gallery - that should be quite thrilling! more vintage maybe? :p
A good enough reason to go shopping! Must check out what the other retailers have. I think this can be classified as market survey.
So sweet! You sure sound excited to take up the new challenges! I think it would be really fun too!
Definitely very exciting ahead! And it's very sweet of Jem - now you've got longlasting flowers for keeps!
So what else, beside the mug, did you get? So convenient leh!
The flowers are huge! And so funny that he didn't notice they were not fresh flowers, hahaha!
Sounds like a good start. Lots of nice shops in that area! Be careful ;)

yuling > Ah yes, vintage would be great! (But bad for my pockets.) Although I'm quite sure the rental would be going up by then, so as of now, I'm not sure what the mix of retail will be!
dr > Yup, market survey, all in the name of work. ;)
pebbles > fingers crossed! :)
lilsnooze > I was laughing so hard, cos I think he couldn't tell the exact size from online.
ONLY a mug la babe, honest!!! Best thing is there's cold storage and market place next door, so I can pop over and do last min grocery shopping if need be. Marina Square didn't have supermarket within walking distance. Carrefour's too far away and always too crowded.
olimomok > they are HUGE, haha! Ya man, I'm half contemplating to keep my credit cards at home. Hee
elaine > thanks babe! :)
cosmic-cow > Thanks babe! Yesh, let's catch up over lunch! Chatterbox will be moving up to level 38 from April (i think), so we can even have chicken rice with a VIEW! Ha!
pf > Thanks babe! :) Not sure about the exact level of involvement, but I reckon it'll be a steep learning curve.
imp > Thanks!! Yes, ONLY a mug. Oh ok fine, and a spoon to match. ;)
I stepped into Taka just when they were announcing that they were 15 minutes to closing, couldn't have gone too far! Although in that space of time, I was checking out a couple of sofa cushions, some dinner plates, some towels and some rugs. Sale la, how can I not get distracted?
candice > Thanks dear! :) I can never do sale, I can't cope with quotas! Well I think if you can sell space, you can sell anything!! Haha
tiffany > You can see a stack of cards? Even I don't see it. but they were very kiasu, they printed TEN boxes of my namecards at one go. When I told my boss, he said yah, cos so that I cannot go anywhere. =p
corsage > The vase is quite big lor! Haha, thanks dear! :)
BBL > Hmmmm... it's freaky how well you know me. Yes, it was 15 minutes to closing.
Haha yes yes, will come back for lunch as much as I can, MISS YOU BBs!
only a mug and a spoon? REALLY? hee.
hey! all the best in the new place!! Orchard is the corrrect place for you ahh!!! hahahaha...
lingz > Yes lor!!!! Such a good girl right?! *grins*
silver-crv > thanks thanks!! Not sure about whether it's the right address. You can ask Jem the next time you see him. ahaha
