The Hardly Normal Experience with Ants
Made a trip to Harvey Norman yesterday, to look for a new kettle. I pointed to 2 different types of kettle - my previous plastic one and the sleek stainless steel one - and asked the salesman what's the difference?
- Salesman: "The stainless steel one is better."
Silence.
Me: "Yah, how so?"
Salesman: "The plastic one, when use long time already, will become affected."
Me: "What you mean affected?"
Salesman: "That means not so good lor."
Me: "Not so good? Like what? You mean the plastic will melt??"
Salesman: "No lah, it will become affected."
Great, he wasn't answering my question at all. Or rather, he didn't know enough to sell his kettles. I told him about my ants' nest in the previous kettle plate, how I have a phobia already.
- Salesman: "Wah. So far we have no such complaints. So far we have no customers who complain got ants in their kettle plates."
Ok, I was being lame. But I had to share my experience, in case there are similar cases around. Glad that I was a "one-of", I succumbed to sleekness and design, and opted for this new addition to our Jemej home. I'm loving it!
While I was there, chanced upon this ultra-chic, beauty of a retro refrigerator. Not available yet in Singapore... that's it. My next kitchen concept will be in RED!!!

Haha I once had a salesman trying to explain the difference between dustbag and water-style vacuum cleaner and it was most funny. He had no clue at all!
But funnily, tv sales staff seems to know their stuff. Maybe higher comm=higher motivation to understand products?
i always think sales pple are not very good with product knowledge!!! i learn more by googling!!!!
ooh. if u like SMEG, there's a shop in pasir panjang that brings it in. no need to wait for harvey norman. couple of the friends got it frm there. they have red, white, green, blue.... don't have address now. must dig. let me know if u need it.

lilsnooze > hey i've been thinking about the water-style vacuum cleaner. the osim one doubles up as the vertical clothes steamer i think. is your vertical clothes steamer good? I'm contemplating but afraid it'll become white elephant and take up space.
imp > hoho, smeg's products are beautiful but expensive! haha, i don't think my hubby would allow me to buy any more things for the house! :p
ilsnooze is correct..they are likely affected by the commision ahh
am not saying this because we are a slight competitor with HN, but i will never buy appliances from them, courts or best denki again after discovering this shop called Etronin at Tampines (let me know if you want the full address) coz the prices are so much cheaper than the normal retailers. plus they don't give you attitude (best denki), push you membership or to sign up for instalment plans (courts) and they don't shirk their responsibilities as knowledgeable salesmen (HNorman).
geez, these clueless sales pple really irritate me. don't try to smoke me just cos you don't have any idea! like your spiffy new kettle though :)
Erh..I hardly use the vertical clothes steamer cos I'm not very good at it. Unlike those G2000 ladies :(
silver-crv > ha, i thought so too. :p
pei fen > that's it!!! next time i need to buy new appliances, i call you!
beanbean > ya, it's one thing to smoke people, another thing to KNOW how to!!! :D
lilsnooze > Heee... that's what i was afraid of too. :p
