Days of Our Lives

During our lunch break at Tiong Bahru today, we became best friends with the biscuit auntie.

Her shop is in the Tiong Bahru market, on the 1st floor, next to the wet market. She has the bestest collection of retro cookies ever - from the colourful "gems" to the apollo, the ice-cream wafers, the "wallets", the "ear biscuits" etc etc. I don't know how many people would be able to catch what I'm saying, but maybe if you see the cookies, you would so know what I'm referring to!

Our Ah Lian here bought not 1 pack, but ONE KILOGRAM of strawberry-flavoured egg rolls. Plus she kept calling the auntie "大姐", which had the auntie grinning from ear to ear.

And because of that, we got discounts off our loot of cookies! She even offered us free "Milky Boy" sweets - haha, I don't recall eating that before.

So the next time you're at Tiong Bahru, go check out her shop if you miss the cookies from our childhood days. They are very fresh and absolutely nostalgic!

There's one such stall at People's Park too, selling all the traditional biscuits and stuff, manned by old lady.
I had to buy from her lor.

Looks like I'm not the only one running "all over town" during lunch hour :)

Hmm,what is wallet biscuit?

lilsnooze > Oh people's park sure has one, very authentic some more!

Hmmm...How to explain wallet biscuit? It's rectangular, using a crispy "crepe" like covering to wrap around the ice-cream wafer. The way it's wrapped, it looks like a wallet to me! :D

olimomok > Yes they have! And many other nostalgic ones, like the cashew nut cookies and peanut butter ones! :)

tiffany > coloured gems are one of my favourites!!

olimomok, tiffany, lingz > We were out on delivery, so we planned our route such that we would end up at Tiong Bahru just before lunch, cos the food there is great!

But even then, we said we would go back again, just to have lunch there, to stock up on our biscuits the next time. Heh

elaine > Oh you're from Muar? One of my beloved friends is from there too, and the otah there is famous right? I love it when she brings it back for us.

michelle > we wear dark-coloured suits all the time, only the insides vary. I was amused too when we took off our jackets and I exclaimed, "Eh, how come we all wearing white today (except for one purple)?" Coincidence! :)

corsage > There's so much great food at Tiong Bahru! :)
